Having earned an MBA from the University of Texas, Jere joined the family’s investment business. It was there he took a keen interest in fiber-optic technology. It was that interest that led him to form CapRock Fiber Network.
Caprock grew like crazy as did a lot of the telecoms that it served. Those were companies like AT&T, Sprint and MCI. In 1998 Caprock merged with another communications company and went public. Unfortunately that business went bankrupt in 2002. So Jere had to start all over again.

Texas deregulated its energy marketing during the year 2002. In energy, there were basically 3 pieces to the market. There were power generators, transmission/distribution companies and retailers of energy.

Jere got into the energy retail business. Specifically the residential energy retail business.

Jere and his team created their own data processing system that they felt could handle the volume of data that they would be processing – like switching providers, billing, collections and customer care.

Jere was his own first customer. His parents were second.

Once he had the basics down, Jere turned to Chris Chambless to turn the marketing engine on.

Chris had previously worked at Excel Communications years ago. At the time, Excel had gone from $30 million to $1.5 billing in five years. And Chris had the roadmap of how to market energy.

And today?
